Lifting weights makes you bulky??? 🙈

Published 3 months ago • 2 min read

As a holistic health coach who specializes in working with women, I am often asked about the benefits of strength training.

Unfortunately, many women still believe the myth that lifting weights will make them “bulky” or “manly”.

However, the truth is that strength training can be an incredibly empowering and beneficial practice for women of all ages and fitness levels.

Here are the top 10 reasons why all of the amazing women I work with incorporate strength training into their lifestyle 2-3 times per week for 30 mins:

1.Building Strong Bones:

Osteoporosis is a common condition that affects many women, especially after menopause. Fortunately, studies have shown that strength training can help prevent and even reverse bone loss, reducing the risk of fractures.

2. Improving Heart Health:

Strength training has been shown to have a positive impact on cardiovascular health, reducing blood pressure, inflammation, and cholesterol levels. By maintaining a healthy heart, women can reduce their risk of heart disease.

3. Boosting Brain Health:

Dementia is a condition that affects many women, but strength training can help reduce the risk of developing it. By increasing blood flow to the brain, promoting the growth of new brain cells, and reducing inflammation, strength training can support cognitive health and reduce the risk of dementia.

4. Increasing Metabolism:

Strength training can help boost metabolism, which is the rate at which the body burns calories. This is because muscle tissue burns more calories than fat tissue. By building lean muscle mass through strength training, women can increase their metabolism, making it easier to maintain a healthy weight.

5. Enhancing Mood and Mental Health:

Strength training has been shown to have a positive impact on mood and mental health by increasing the production of endorphins, which are natural mood-boosting chemicals in the brain. Regular strength training can help women feel more confident, energized, and less stressed (5).

6. Reducing the Risk of Injury:

Strength training can help reduce the risk of injury by strengthening the muscles, tendons, and ligaments. This is especially important for women who may be more prone to certain types of injuries, such as those related to pregnancy, childbirth, or menopause.

7. Improving Balance and Coordination:

As women age, they may experience a decline in balance and coordination, which can increase the risk of falls and injuries. However, strength training can help improve balance and coordination by strengthening the core muscles, improving posture, and increasing overall body awareness.

8. Managing Menopause Symptoms:

Menopause is a natural process that all women go through, but it can be accompanied by a range of uncomfortable symptoms, such as hot flashes, night sweats, and mood swings. However, strength training can help manage these symptoms by improving overall health and reducing stress levels (8).

9. Promoting Healthy Aging:

Strength training can help women maintain muscle mass, bone density, and overall health as they age. This can help prevent age-related diseases and disabilities, allowing women to stay active and independent for longer.

10. Empowerment and Confidence:

Strength training can help women feel empowered and confident by challenging them to push past their limits and achieve new goals. This can translate into other areas of life, such as work, relationships, and personal growth.

In conclusion, strength training is an essential practice for women looking to support their physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

By incorporating it into their regular fitness routine, my female clients have reaped a wide range of health benefits.

Are you currently strength training?

Elan

Hey, I hope you’re doing well! I recently completed an amazing book by Dr. Nicole Lapera, known as the Holistic Psychologist on Instagram. Her book, “How to Do the Work,” delves into the topic of reconnecting with and understanding our inner child. This section resonated deeply with me as it aligns with the personal growth journey I’ve been on, both independently and with the support of my counselor over the past 5 years. Dr. Lapera introduces the concept of the seven inner child archetypes,...
